SUMMARY:United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP16)
DESCRIPTION:We participated in the meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Held in Cali (Colombia)\, this year\, under the slogan “Peace with Nature”\, it seeks reflection to improve the relationship we have with the environment\, rethink an economic model that does not prioritize the extraction\, overexploitation and pollution of nature. Within the framework of the COP\, from the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IEEB)\, promoted by the Biodiversity Foundation\, we will highlight the actions carried out to promote the incorporation of nature in the decision-making of the Spanish private sector by participating in parallel events with the rest of the members of the Global Partnership Business and Biodiversity and at its annual meeting\, which will take place on October 26. On Thursday\, October 24\, we participated in the presentation of the collaborative project “Positive incentives for Biodiversity“\, where we will present the actions of the Pleamar Program. On Friday\, October 25\, we will participate in a round table on green employment at the meeting “EMPINVEST event on Employment Impact Assessment (EmpIA) to promote the creation of decent employment“\, organized by the International Labor Organization. On October 29\, Land Life Iberia\, a member of the IEEB\, organizes “Enabling private investment to nature-positive activities in the Iberian Peninsula: challenges and opportunity“\, where the FB will also be represented. Finally\, on October 30\, we participated in the meeting “Positive Incentives for Ibero-America and Exchange of Best Practices”\, which we co-organized with CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.

SUMMARY:COP29 on Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29)\, which will take place in Baku\, Azerbaijan\, is a crucial opportunity to accelerate action to address the climate crisis. With global temperatures reaching record highs and extreme weather events affecting people around the world\, COP29 will bring together leaders from governments\, businesses and civil society to find concrete solutions to the most important problem of our time. A key theme of COP29 will be finance\, which is imperative for countries to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the growing impacts of climate change. The conference will also be a key moment for countries to submit their updated national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement\, which are due in early 2025. At this COP29\, the Spanish pavilion will become a meeting space in which different key agents will reflect on the main issues of this global agenda.

DESCRIPTION:The aim of this meeting is to address the impact of drought and desertification on different regions and sectors\, proposing possible solutions\, as well as discussing the main conclusions of COP16\, held in Riyadh in 2024. It is organised in collaboration with the Sub-Directorate General for Forest Policy and Combating Desertification of MITECO and Casa África.  \nThe event will have a scientific-technical character\, where representatives from Africa and Spain will share their knowledge on desertification\, from the perspective of cooperation between both territories. In addition\, projects related to desertification financed by the Biodiversity Foundation through the Recovery\, Transformation and Resilience Plan will be presented.
