SUMMARY:Start of the nautical journey of the LIFE A-MAR project. Cabo de Palos (Cartagena)
DESCRIPTION:In the port of Cabo de Palos\, a nautical journey begins that will visit more than 10 marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network to raise awareness of the benefits and opportunities of these places. \nThe Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO)\, in coordination with the Directorate General for Biodiversity\, Forests and Desertification and the autonomous communities involved\, is launching this information campaign within the framework of the European project LIFE A-MAR\, Knowing and loving the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network to protect them\, coordinated by the Italian Federation of Parks and Nature Reserves (Federparchi)\, and which is being developed in parallel in Italy and Spain. It has the financial contribution of the LIFE Program of the European Union \nThe campaign will reach the coasts of the Region of Murcia\, the Valencian Community\, the Balearic Islands\, Catalonia and Andalusia until June 6. At each of the eight stops that will take place\, guided tours and participatory sessions will be carried out with socio-economic agents and the local population. \nTHE LARGEST NETWORK OF PROTECTED AREAS \nThe Natura 2000 Network is the European network of protected areas\, the largest in the world. Its purpose is to ensure the long-term conservation of priority species and habitats for Europe\, and to contribute to halting the loss of biodiversity\, while ensuring economic development that respects these important natural values. They are managed both by the autonomous community where each space is located and by the General State Administration. \nThe Spanish Mediterranean is made up of 128 marine or maritime-terrestrial areas\, covering 16% of its waters. \nPROTECTED AREAS IN THE REGION OF MURCIA \nOff the coast of the Region of Murcia are 8 of these marine spaces. One of them is the Site of Community Interest (SCI) Calblanque\, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila located at the eastern end of the Murcian coast\, between Cabo de Palos and Portmán. This protected area of steep cliffs\, dunes and beautiful coves\, is a sample of the well-preserved Mediterranean coast\, where the relief of the seabed gives rise to very rich and diverse biological communities. \nIt is home to meadows of Posidonia oceanica\, a key species for the conservation of the Mediterranean marine ecosystem. The presence of high-quality food in this coastal area makes this place part of the migratory routes of cetaceans and sea turtles. \nAmong the species that inhabit its waters are the fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus)\, the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta)\, the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) and the red gorgonian (Paramuricea clavata)\, colonies of organisms that serve as a resting place and refuge for other animals. \nProgram\nMay 9: \n\nFrom 10:00 a.m.: Briefing for the public. Inthe port of Cabo de Palos on board the boat that will make the nautical crossing.\n4:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.: Meeting with socio-economic agents. Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas marine reserve office. Calle Los Palangres s/n. Cabo de Palos. \n\nMay 10: \n\nGuided boat tour through the Calblanque space\, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila\, Murcia.\n\n

SUMMARY:Nautical crossing of the LIFE A-MAR project in the Valencian Community
DESCRIPTION:On May 12 and 13\, the planned stopovers will take place in the Valencian Community within the framework of the nautical crossing that is touring more than 10 marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network in the Mediterranean to raise awareness of the benefits and opportunities of these places. They are managed both by the autonomous community where each space is located and by the General State Administration. \nThe Spanish Mediterranean is made up of 128 marine or maritime-terrestrial areas\, covering 16% of its waters. \nProtected areas in the Valencian Community \nOff the coast of the Valencian Community there are 22 of these marine spaces. One of them is the Montgó-Cap de Sant Antoni Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA)\, located between the municipalities of Xàbia and Denia. It is part of the Montgó Massif Natural Park. Beyond its impressive cliffs\, its extension towards the sea is made up of rocky and sandy bottoms that are characterised by extraordinary marine biodiversity\, in which you can find from small invertebrates such as anemones and limpets\, to large creatures such as moray eels and groupers. \nThe great variety of environments present in Cap de Sant Antoni allows the appearance of a significant number of benthic communities\, some of them of great ecological interest. \nAmong the protected species that inhabit its waters are the fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus)\, the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) and the orange gorgonian (Leptogorgia sarmentosa)\, also known as “sea fans”\, which are colonies of organisms\, very valuable as a resting place and food for other animal species. \nPROGRAM\nMay 12: \n-All day. Public briefing. Xàbia Marina\, Alicante. \n– 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Meeting with socio-economic agents. Duanes Library and Social Center. Calle Botànic Cavanilles\, 17\, Xàbia\, Alicante (2nd floor). \nMay 13 in the morning: \n– Guided boat tour of the Montgó-Cap de Sant Antoni space\, Valencia.

SUMMARY:Nautical crossing of the LIFE A-MAR project in the Balearic Islands
DESCRIPTION:Between 14 and 20 May\, the planned stopovers in the Balearic Islands will take place as part of the nautical journey that is touring more than 10 marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network in the Mediterranean to raise awareness of the benefits and opportunities of these places. \nThe Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO)\, in coordination with the Directorate-General for Biodiversity\, Forests and Desertification and the autonomous communities involved\, is launching this information campaign of the European project LIFE A-MAR\, Knowing and loving the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network to protect them\, coordinated by the Italian Federation of Parks and Nature Reserves (Federparchi)\, and which is being developed in parallel in Italy and Spain. It has the financial contribution of the LIFE Program of the European Union \nThe campaign is being carried out off the coasts of the Region of Murcia\, Valencia\, the Balearic Islands\, Catalonia and Andalusia until June 6. In each of the eight stops that will be made in total\, guided tours and participatory sessions are being carried out with socioeconomic agents and the local population. \nProtected areas in the Balearic Islands \nOff the coast of the Balearic Islands are 52 of these marine spaces. The nautical campaign will cover five of them: Canal de Ibiza\, Ses Salines d ́Eivissa i Formentera\, Sa Dragonera\, Badies de Pollença i Alcúdia and Costa sud de Menorca-Costa Nord de Ciutadella. \nIt will carry out stopovers and activities in two of them: \nSes Salines d ́Eivissa i Formentera is an SCI and SPA area between the old salt flats of Ibiza and Formentera. Its marshes are a privileged place for bird watching. The marine area is characterised by the presence of Posidonia oceanica in an excellent state of conservation\, a key species for the conservation of the Mediterranean marine ecosystem. In this space\, the extension and state of conservation of the posidonia are excellent. Other protected species that inhabit its waters and coasts are the shag (Glosorus aristotelis)\, the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta)\, the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) and the Balearic shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus)\, the most endangered bird in Europe. \nSa Dragonera\, in Mallorca\, is an area formed by the island of Sa Dragonera and the islets of Es Pantaleu and Sa Mitjana.La area of the Park is 275 hectares of land\, which are complemented by the 457 hectares of the marine reserve of fishing interest. The great biological value of the marine area is represented by a wide variety of habitats\, such as Posidonia oceanica meadows or large forests of macroalgae that offer refuge for the regeneration of a multitude of species of fish\, crustaceans or octopuses. The steep rocky bottoms of the outer waters quickly reach great depths\, with numerous cracks and caves in the cliffs that provide valuable habitats for a wide variety of species. This space is also SCI and SPA. \nPROGRAM\n📌 Formentera. May 14 and 15: \n– May 14\, all day. Public awareness campaign. SUMMARY:Nautical crossing of the LIFE A-MAR project in Catalonia
DESCRIPTION:Between 26 and 31 May\, the planned stopovers in Catalonia will take place as part of the nautical journey that is touring more than 10 marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network in the Mediterranean to raise awareness of the benefits and opportunities of these places. \nProtected areas in Catalonia \nOff the coast of Catalonia are 15 of these marine spaces. The nautical campaign will cover two of them: El Montgrí\, Illes Medes and Baix Ter\, in Girona\, and the Delta de l’Ebre\, in Tarragona. \nEl Montgrí\, Illes Medes and Baix Ter is an SCI and SPA located between the regions of l’Alt and Baix Empordà. It is an area specially protected for its environmental\, scenic\, historical and cultural values. The Medes archipelago\, with seven islets and an area of approximately 23 hectares\, has an excellent seabed and is one of the most important reserves of marine flora and fauna in the western Mediterranean. \nThe posidonia meadows are among the best preserved on the Catalan coast. From a depth of 15 m\, coralligenous\, red gorgonians and eye coral appear\, which are very sensitive to human impact and climate change. Almost all the underwater environments of the western Mediterranean are represented on the seabed. Other protected species that inhabit its waters and coasts are the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta)\, the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) and the Balearic shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus)\, the most endangered bird in Europe. \nThe Ebro Delta is a large marine area that includes the entire shelf and part of the continental slope under the direct influence of the Ebro River. It stretches parallel to the coast\, for more than 140 km\, from the cape of Salou in the north\, to the surroundings of the Columbretes and Castellón de la Plana islands in the south. It is the largest aquatic habitat in Catalonia and is considered one of the most important marine feeding areas for waterfowl in the entire Mediterranean. Its marine part is one of the areas with the highest biological productivity\, thanks to the combination of various factors such as the river contributions of the Ebro\, and the upwelling of deep waters rich in nutrients. \nThe Delta De L’Ebre is a dynamic system resulting from continuous structural processes and the anthropic transformations of recent years. This space is also SCI and SPA. Some protected species that inhabit its waters are: sandwich tern (Thalasseus sandvicensis)\, pen shell (Pinna nobilis) and meadows of Cymodocea nodosa\, which after Posidonia oceanica\, is the second most important marine plant in the Mediterranean\, due to its size and the extension occupied by its meadows\, which provide important shelter to a multitude of animals. \nPROGRAM\n📌 Girona. May 26 and 27: \n– May 26\, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Training session for nautical companies on anchoring in posidonia and marine species. Port de l’Estartit; Training room Escola de Vela Club Nàutic L’Estartit. \n– May 26\, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Guided sailing tour for teachers through the El Montgrí space\, Medes Islands and the Baix Ter. Meeting point: port of l’Estartit \n– May 27\, 11:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Guided sailing tour through the El Montgrí space\, Illes Medes and the Baix Ter. Meeting point: port of l’Estartit \n📌 Tarragona. May 30 and 31: \n– 30 and 31 May\, all day. Public awareness campaign. On board the sailboat docked in the port of l’Ampolla. \n– May 30\, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Meeting with socio-economic agents. L’Ampolla (room to be confirmed). Registration and more information. \n– May 31. Guided boat tour of the Ebro Delta Natural Park. The tour includes visits to the Fangar area and within the Badía. Two shifts of visits. Departure from the port of l’Ampolla. Registration and more information.
