For the first time, the Wild10 World Wildlands Congress will be held in a country in the Mediterranean basin, with the title “A New Perspective on Conservation for Europe”, which sets out the proposal to recover natural heritage as a foundation for progress.<\/p>\n
Spain has been selected to hold this congress for its outstanding natural heritage. In this sense, Ramos stressed that “its importance is due both to the diversity of wild species present and to the extension and state of conservation of its ecosystems. It must be taken into account that 27% of the national territory is within the Natura 2000 Network”. He also specified that “approximately 60,000 species of flora and fauna are present in our territory, and 54% of the Habitats of Community Interest existing in Europe”. <\/p>\n
The Secretary of State for the Environment also wanted to highlight the conservation efforts aimed at emblematic species of Spain such as brown bears, lynxes or eagles, and pointed out that “many of these species just a few decades ago have come close to extinction, and today they are in clear recovery”.<\/p>\n
The Wild10 congress, which will be held between October 4 and 10, will be attended by scientists, technicians, politicians, athletes or representatives of public and private entities and indigenous or traditional peoples, will be completed with a program of urban activities, as well as guided tours of natural spaces.<\/p>\n
