The World Meteorological Organization has managed to have three of its proposals adopted at the last Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP18).<\/p>\n
\n<\/p>\n
This has recognized the results of the last extraordinary session of the World Meteorological Congress, held in Geneva last October, in relation to the implementation of the Global Framework for Climate Services, which aims to strengthen the production, availability, delivery and application of science- and services-based climate predictions.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the need to strengthen international cooperation and experiences to understand and reduce the potential loss and damage associated with the negative effects of climate change, as well as the effects of extreme weather events, is recognized; the importance of systematic observation of the impacts produced by climate change; the need to improve access to hydrometeorological metadata to assess and manage such risks.<\/p>\n
The Conference of the Parties adopted an eight-year Doha agenda on Article Six of the Convention, which obliges governments to promote and facilitate climate change education, public awareness and training. This recognizes WMO and five other UN bodies as members of the UN Climate Change Alliance for Education, Training and Public Awareness.
