The Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, Miguel Arias Ca\u00f1ete, has proposed that companies adapt their activity to the principles and objectives of sustainable development, since in addition to being fundamental ethical pillars, they constitute “management tools that will favour efficient and responsible management”.<\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

During his speech at a Global Compact forum within the framework of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio+20” and attended by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, the Minister highlighted his support for this responsible model, after insisting to companies that it is worth facing this opportunity.<\/p>\n

The Global Compact is an international initiative proposed by the United Nations with the aim of promoting corporate citizenship and involving companies in the management of some of the main social and environmental challenges resulting from globalisation.<\/p>\n

The Minister explained that the Spanish government has been working in this area for more than twelve years and that it has developed an appropriate regulatory framework in support of this model of sustainable companies, in line with the recommendations made by the European Union.<\/p>\n
