XI Conference of the Parties – Convention on Biological Diversity <\/h1>\n

From 8 to 19 October 2012, the XI Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity will be held in Hyderabad, India. At the last COP, held in Nagoya in October 2010, the Parties approved the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, a document that, among other conclusions and objectives to be achieved, establishes 20 targets, called the Aichi Targets. The upcoming COP aims to boost the implementation of the objectives of the Strategic Plan and the Aichi Targets. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The COP is the governing body of the Convention on Biological Diversity and promotes its implementation through the decisions it takes at its meetings, which are held on a regular basis. The first meeting of the COP was held in 1994. To date, the Conference of the Parties has adopted a total of 299 procedural and substantive decisions.
