The Spanish National Research Council and the Biodiversity Foundation are holding the “Sports Race for the Conservation of Biodiversity” on 17 October.<\/p>\n
This is the traditional International Science Race, which is organized every year by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and in its XXX edition will be dedicated to celebrating the International Year of Biodiversity.<\/p>\n
The test, in which anyone of legal age can participate, is carried out on a circuit of 10 approved kilometers that runs through some of the main streets of central Madrid and will have, as in previous editions, start and finish at the central campus of the CSIC (Calle Serrano, 117).<\/p>\n
This competition has its origins in a “cross-country” race held in 1925, which was part of the athletic contest of the Residencia de Estudiantes. Many years have passed since some hard-working disciples of the pedagogical ideas of the Instituci\u00f3n Libre de Ense\u00f1anza traveled 3,000 meters through the places where the test is held today. <\/p>\n
The race combines the popular character \u2013 it is already a classic among Madrid athletes \u2013 with the rigor of high-level official international and national competitions. Every year it has a cast of top-class international athletes who participate and is included in the calendar of Road Tests of the Royal Athletics Federation, which is responsible for time control and anti-doping. <\/p>\n
