The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, a public foundation of the Government of Spain, under the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, Ana Leiva, attended the start of the open days of the Raixa estate, in Mallorca, on September 5, together with the president of the Consell, Francina Armengol; the Minister of the Presidency, Cosme Bonet; the councillors of Economy and Tourism and of the Environment, Isabel Oliver and Catalina Julve, respectively.<\/p>\n

A group of citizens from the municipality of Bunyola has accompanied the entourage on the first visit to Raixa. The group toured the estate, walked through the historic gardens and the dependencies of the estate, to finish the visit at the pond. <\/p>\n

In this way, the Consell de Mallorca and the Biodiversity Foundation open Raixa to the public. Initially, the farm can be visited every weekend until the end of the year, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Different guides are available to visitors to make the history of the gardens known in a one-hour tour. There will also be a paper guide, published in four languages (Catalan, Spanish, English and German), with all the information related to the estate. <\/p>\n

Citizens will be able to access Raixa in different ways: the property will have free access every weekend and, from October, the Raixa.cat web portal will be put into operation, through which individuals and schools will be able to arrange visits, from Monday to Friday.<\/p>\n

The Consell de Mallorca and the Biodiversity Foundation have carried out the restoration of the estate and the cleaning of the historic gardens, according to criteria of environmental sustainability. Thus, the second phase of a rehabilitation project has now begun, which began in 2003, with the aim of turning Raixa into a centre for the interpretation of the environmental, historical, architectural and anthropological values that the estate represents.
