The Minister of the Environment, Cristina Narbona, has inaugurated, within the framework of the IV World Water Forum, the meeting of the Follow-up Committee of the Memorandum of Understanding between Spain and Mexico, focused on the potential of renewable energies and energy savings and efficiency, and the identification of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects of the Kyoto Protocol in the Aztec country.<\/p>\n

Convened by the Spanish Ministry of the Environment and the Mexican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), the meeting was also attended by business representatives from the energy sector of both countries, in order to continue strengthening the rapprochement between the public and private sectors in the identification and implementation of CDM projects. <\/p>\n
Among the projects with the greatest potential have been identified those for the generation of energy through renewable sources, such as solar, wind, mini-hydro and biomass. Likewise, the identification and implementation of projects for the reduction of CO2 emissions at the municipal level is contemplated, mainly in those applied to Mexico City. <\/p>\n
The Memorandum of Understanding on Clean Development Mechanisms was signed in December 2004 at the Tenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
