The environmental organization Greenpeace will dedicate its greatest efforts in 2006 to the defense of the planet’s oceans. Greenpeace began at the end of 2005 the ambitious expedition A Year in the Life of the Oceans, whose objective is to denounce the multiple threats suffered by marine spaces, and will be the priority for the environmental organization throughout 2006. The expedition has begun in the Antarctic seas where the environmental vessels Esperanza and Arctic Sunrise are succeeding in boycotting whaling by the Japanese whaling fleet. <\/p>\n

The A Year in the Life of the Oceans expedition will arrive in the Mediterranean in the spring of 2006. The Mediterranean Sea, which is home to great biodiversity, takes more than 100 years to renew its waters, and is therefore especially vulnerable to pollution. The Mediterranean coastline is subject to intense urbanization, which is accompanied by discharges, pollution and degradation of the ecosystem. Only 1% of the Mediterranean is protected. That is why Greenpeace will carry out a new campaign in defense of this valuable sea. <\/p>\n
On the other hand, Greenpeace will continue its efforts in the fight against climate change, making a special effort to promote energy generation alternatives based on renewable sources, as opposed to dirty energies, fossil fuels and nuclear.
