The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment has promoted, through its call for grants, the creation of the “Spanish Fish Chart”,<\/a><\/strong> an initiative developed by the Iberian Society of Ichthyology<\/strong> (Sibic), which has managed to record and identify nearly 60,000 freshwater fish in Spanish rivers and has become the largest inventory of this type of river biodiversity.
\n 
The information provided by research centres and public administrations, together with the data collected, has been incorporated into a database that brings together the biology and ecology of fish<\/strong> and their associated references and divides the register into localities that allow you to consult the fish that live in a specific river.
\n 
The main objective of the Sibic is to promote the study and conservation<\/strong> of these species of fish that inhabit the Iberian Peninsula and bring them closer to the general public.
\n 
The importance of this project lies in the need for accurate information on the distribution of freshwater fish, which is particularly relevant for managers when developing monitoring, control and conservation strategies.
\n 
In addition, the data collected will allow the analysis of fish populations and contribute to the conservation status of the group. They are also available to the public on a web platform and will be provided to the Spanish National Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity. <\/p>\n
