The Caba\u00f1a Real de Carreteros association has carried out restoration activities in 22 River Nature Reserves.
\n<\/p>\n

More than 1,000 volunteers have participated in the restoration activities of 22 River Nature Reserves that the Caba\u00f1a Real de Carreteros<\/a> association has organized within the framework of the call for aid from the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment.<\/p>\n

This project to recover the natural environment<\/strong>, which has been developed during 2016<\/strong>, has been carried out in 58 towns in Castilla y Le\u00f3n, La Rioja and the Basque Country<\/strong> and has promoted the participation of residents of all ages and profiles, as well as companies and administrations in the region.<\/p>\n

Conserving the landscape, restoring natural enclaves and improving the ecological connectivity<\/strong> of habitats linked to freshwater have been the objectives of the initiative. To this end, actions have been carried out to clean riverbeds, revegetation of banks, eliminate exotic species and reinforce native fauna in the wetlands of the Duero and Ebro basins<\/strong>, some of which are included in the Natura 2000 Network conservation network. <\/p>\n

In addition to these field activities, the association’s intention has also been to raise awareness among the local population of the value of their natural<\/strong> and cultural heritage with awareness-raising activities about rivers. Exhibitions on fresh waters, informative talks on the operation of the riverbeds and river education workshops have been interspersed during the development of the project with the landscape conservation work. <\/p>\n
