We have presented the LIFE IP INTEMARES and its related projects for the protection of the sea at the Piel de Tuna festival, in C\u00e1diz.
\n<\/p>\n

We have joined the celebration of the artistic, gastronomic, cultural and scientific festival Piel de At\u00fan<\/a>, which takes place in C\u00e1diz until May 5, with the aim of raising awareness in society of the importance of protecting marine life and acting in the face of global change.<\/p>\n

Within this framework, we have presented the LIFE IP INTEMARES<\/a> project in the Contemporary Creation space of C\u00e1diz. V\u00edctor Guti\u00e9rrez, coordinator of European and LIFE projects of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, has made a tour of the challenges we face to conserve the marine Natura 2000 Network effectively and has asked young people to get involved in the protection of the sea<\/strong>. In the same way, Marta Mart\u00ednez-Gil, from the Sub-Directorate for the Protection of the Sea of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, explained the impacts of marine litter<\/strong> and shared with the attendees the decalogue of measures that any citizen can take to minimise this problem. <\/p>\n

Within the framework of the projects linked to the LIFE IP INTEMARES project, various entities have presented projects co-financed by the Biodiversity Foundation, <\/strong>through the Pleamar (FEMP) and Empleaverde (FSE) programs and the call for marine biodiversity.  <\/strong>Specifically, the secretary general of the Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds of C\u00e1diz, Nicol\u00e1s Fern\u00e1ndez, has highlighted the importance of working together in sustainable fishing with initiatives and spaces for dialogue and participation. This entity has launched a coordination network between the fishing and research sector<\/strong> in the Gulf of Cadiz. <\/p>\n

For his part, the founding scientist of the CIRCE research group, Renaud de Stephanis, explained why killer whales and tuna fishing maintain a survival relationship<\/strong>. During the day, the head of European Projects and Training at CEEI Bah\u00eda de C\u00e1diz, Ana Su\u00e1rez, announced a successful business initiative in the maritime-coastal tourism sector of the Bay of C\u00e1diz, <\/strong>as a result of the cooperation of various sectors, entities and public administrations. <\/p>\n

Finally, the researcher in the Food Technology Area of the University of C\u00e1diz, Ana Rold\u00e1n, has shown how innovative products, such as garum-type<\/em> fish sauces, can be developed <\/strong>from fish products of low commercial value.<\/p>\n

These talks are part of the initiatives of the EU Green Week 2019<\/a>, promoted by the European Commission.<\/p>\n

The festival is driven by the Tuna Skin movement<\/strong>, named after the migratory journey of tuna in which their skin becomes an indicator of the state of the sea. This organization aims to raise awareness among citizens of the importance of protecting marine life and involve them in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals set for 2030. <\/p>\n

Until 5 May, the city of C\u00e1diz hosts various educational, artistic, cultural and gastronomic activities in various spaces of the city.<\/p>\n

LIFE IP INTERNARES<\/strong><\/p>\n

The LIFE IP INTEMARES project is coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition. The General Directorate of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea of the same ministry, the IEO, the Spanish Fisheries Confederation, SEO\/BirdLife and WWF-Spain participate as partners. It has the financial contribution of the European Union’s LIFE programme<\/strong>, among other sources of funding. <\/p>\n
