We are presenting the LIFE IP INTEMARES project at the 5th International Conference on Advances in Marine Conservation.
\n<\/p>\n

We are presenting the LIFE IP INTEMARES<\/a> project at the 5th International Conference on Advances in Marine Conservation<\/strong>, which is being held in the German city of Stralsund until September 7th. This forum, which brings together some 250 experts in the marine environment, aims to analyse the achievements made in protecting the oceans on a global scale since the Rio Conference<\/a> and the challenges we face in the future. <\/p>\n

Our participation in the conference has focused on exposing the actions that allow us to move towards a new management model of marine protected areas<\/strong> with the active participation of all the agents involved and based on the best scientific knowledge available.<\/p>\n

To this end, a coordinated and effective management of the Natura 2000 Network<\/strong> is necessary, betting on participatory decision-making and laying the foundations that will lead us towards a development model based on sustainability, innovation and involvement <\/strong>of all actors related to the marine environment.    <\/p>\n

With the LIFE IP INTEMARES project, coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, we are involving various socio-economic sectors<\/strong> in the management of marine protected areas.<\/p>\n

Involvement of the fishing sector<\/strong><\/p>\n

At this international conference we have highlighted the involvement of the fishing sector in participatory processes for the development of management plans for <\/strong>the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network, in the training and education strategy, as well as in initiatives co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), the European Social Fund (ESF) and calls for aid from the Biodiversity Foundation.<\/p>\n

In addition, the project has the participation of the Spanish Fisheries Confederation (CEPESCA)<\/strong> as a partner in the project. The General Directorate of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, SEO\/Birdlife and WWF-Spain are also partners. The project has the financial contribution of the European Union’s LIFE Programme, among other sources of funding. <\/p>\n
