Navantia<\/a>, a leading Spanish public company in the design and construction of military ships and high-tech civilian ships, is teaming up with the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge to reinforce its commitment to the protection of biodiversity.<\/p>\n

With operations in several countries in addition to Spain (Australia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the USA, India and Norway), Navantia is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, promoting the circular economy, including respect for the environment in the design criteria of its products and services and supporting actions that promote the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans and seas.<\/p>\n

On Environment Day, Navantia signs the Biodiversity Pact to join the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative<\/a> (IEEB). This signing represents a commitment to work on a sustainable and nature-friendly business model. <\/p>\n

With this company, the first representative of the shipbuilding industry sector, the IEEB already has 25 large Spanish companies, as well as 5 strategic partners, and constitutes a public-private platform that pursues a better integration of biodiversity in the business sector. The activity of the IEEB and its companies and partners can be seen in the second activity report<\/a> that highlights actions to conserve our natural capital in the period 2016-2018. On May 22, International Day for Biological Diversity, it was 7 years since the launch of this initiative, which is proving to be a useful forum to advance in aspects related to business and biodiversity. <\/p>\n

The Biodiversity Foundation and Navantia have also decided to study formulas for joint collaboration within the framework of the LIFE INTEMARES<\/a> project. Specifically, aspects related to the identification of new technologies for the monitoring and surveillance of Natura 2000 Network spaces in the sea, in the dissemination of marine conservation activities carried out by both entities as well as in the training of Navantia workers for the improvement of the management of marine protected areas will be analyzed. <\/p>\n
