The Spanish Aquaculture Observatory (OESA) <\/a>is a project of the Ministry of Environment’s Biodiversity Foundation. <\/strong>for Ecological Transition. Its objective is to serve as a platform for monitoring and analyzing the development of aquaculture in Spain, promoting its sustainability, strengthening its image in society, supporting research projects, technological development and, especially, environmental innovation, fostering knowledge transfer and supporting international cooperation. To achieve these objectives, the project has five lines of work:<\/p>\n

  1. Bringing Aquaculture closer to society<\/li>\n
  2. Strengthening of science-sector relations<\/li>\n
  3. Resources and training<\/li>\n
  4. Environment and sustainable development<\/li>\n
  5. International Cooperation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This project is developed by the Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Area <\/em>of the Biodiversity Foundation and allows continuity to the work carried out since 2002 by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the General Secretariat of Maritime Fisheries, through the creation of the Spanish Aquaculture Observatory and, from 2008 to 31 December 2014, through the Spanish Aquaculture Observatory Foundation under the protectorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment. The activities carried out up to 2014 can be consulted in the reports published by the Observatory.<\/p>\n

    Among the highlights are the exhibition Aquaculture? Discover it<\/a><\/strong>, which since 2010 has visited more than one million people on its various itinerancies, the coordination of the activities that are programmed in Spain on the occasion of the celebration of Aquaculture Day<\/strong>,<\/a> on November 30<\/strong>, the monitoring of the evaluation of the Spanish aquaculture sector and the R+D+i activities related to it, including the preparation of reports and studies and the monitoring and implementation of the Multiannual Strategic Plan for Spanish Aquaculture 2014-2020<\/a><\/strong> linked to the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.<\/p>\n

    During 2016, the Biodiversity Foundation is promoting, within the framework of the Aquaculture Day, the implementation of the Commission’s #FarmedintheEU<\/a> Campaign, which aims to raise awareness among children and young people about the advantages of farming, buying and consuming sustainable aquaculture products.     The Observatory also keeps updated the main databases<\/a> <\/strong>related to R+D+i activities in aquaculture that are carried out in our country, including information related to research centers and companies, researchers and technicians, their projects and scientific publications, among others, and offers various audiences and agents, training and informative materials and resources<\/strong><\/a> related to the sector. such as the “Guide to sustainable aquaculture for the media<\/em>“, the “Discover aquaculture<\/em>” workshops, aimed at schoolchildren or the story “The emperor’s dream<\/em><\/a>“<\/em><\/a> for the little ones.<\/p>\n
