Ramos spoke this morning at the XII National Congress on the Environment (CONAMA), where he reviewed climate change policies and the important projects in this area promoted by the Executive in this legislature. <\/p>\n
Federico Ramos stressed Spain’s support for the rest of the European Union’s partners in the search for international commitments to fight climate change, and whose confirmation will take place soon at the Climate Summit to be held in Lima, a key meeting to achieve in 2015 the new climate agreement that will replace the Kyoto Protocol. a commitment that will bind all countries.<\/p>\n
Regarding the Lima summit, Ramos said that Spain will participate “with its homework done, given that we have unilaterally committed to reducing our emissions by 40% by 2030, when in October the EU approved the 2030 Energy and Climate Framework”.<\/p>\n
Ramos, among the initiatives listed as an example of joining forces in the fight against climate change and in the transition to a low-carbon economy, highlighted the creation of the Spanish Group for Green Growth, which this week held its First Meeting Forum, chaired by Minister Garc\u00eda Tejerina, and in which Spanish companies and the Administration participated to share information. experiences and initiatives in order to work together in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n
Regarding this Group, the Secretary of State has assured that “its contributions allow strengthening the negotiating position of Spain and the EU in the next international summits on Climate, especially the one in Lima, which will be decisive in committing effective actions to halt and reverse climate change”.<\/p>\n
INITIATIVES LAUNCHED<\/p>\n
In his speech, Ramos reviewed the policies carried out by his Department with the aim of achieving a low-carbon economy, detailing the Plans for the Promotion of the Environment (PIMA Aire) \u2013 which already have three editions \u2013 in addition to the PIMA Sol and PIMA Tierra, and which will immediately be followed by a new PIMA Aire.<\/p>\n
He also highlighted the Climate Projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in diffuse sectors, and the implementation of the Carbon Footprint Registry, to which more than 50 companies have joined, which will also strengthen national sinks.
