The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA), Jaime Haddad, today presided over the presentation of the Spanish Mobility Week (SEM) Awards, which this year was held under the slogan “Sharing takes you further”, and which is part of the European Mobility Week.<\/p>\n
Haddad was accompanied at the event by the general director of Environmental Quality and Assessment and the Natural Environment of MAPAMA, Javier Cach\u00f3n; by the Director General of Architecture, Housing and Land of the Ministry of Public Works, Antonio Aguilar; and by the director of Energy Saving and Efficiency, IDEA, of the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, Pedro Prieto, among other authorities and representatives of organizations, institutions and companies.<\/p>\n
During the presentation of these awards, the undersecretary of MAPAMA highlighted the importance of reinforcing the commitment to sustainable mobility practices that help improve air quality and quality of life in cities, and valued the great participation of city councils and citizens in this initiative. <\/p>\n
COMMITMENT OF CITY COUNCILS TO SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY<\/strong><\/p>\n In the category of consistories of more than 50,000 inhabitants, the gold medal has been awarded to the City Council of Malaga, a municipality already awarded last year with the silver medal, for the success achieved in mobility in its historic center, the design and execution of actions to improve the black spots in the mobility of its municipality and the actions in school campaigns.<\/p>\n The silver medal has gone to Benidorm, for its commitment to the bicycle as a means of transport and its network to areas of tourism and occasional residence.<\/p>\n The Valencia City Council, which was already silver ex aequo last year along with Malaga, has obtained the bronze in this edition, for its commitment to environmental sustainability and the improvement of the urban bus transport system.<\/p>\n MUNICIPALITIES WITH LESS THAN 50,000 INHABITANTS<\/strong><\/p>\n In the category of towns with less than 50,000 inhabitants, the municipality of Gav\u00e1 (Barcelona) has been recognised with gold for the robustness of the design process of its measures, from conception and communication to citizen participation, and for the result of environmental improvement in the surroundings of an educational centre.<\/p>\n The silver medal has been awarded to Herrera del Duque (Badajoz), for continuity and permanent and sustained effort to promote sustainable mobility. The bronze, for its part, has been awarded to the City Council of Tomelloso (Ciudad Real), for the quality of its work, the effort in showing the usefulness of pedestrian mobility and for the quantity and quality of measures adopted in pursuit of the elimination of barriers to walking. <\/p>\n VARIETY AND ORIGINALITY IN COMPANY INITIATIVES<\/strong><\/p>\n Among the companies and institutions awarded this year, the gold medal has been awarded to the Tragsa Group, for the variety and originality of the activities carried out and the breadth of the impact among its staff to promote the use of sustainable transport systems in itineraries related to the working day.<\/p>\n The company SEUR, S.A. has won the second prize for the diversity of measures adopted to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and for its commitment to a smart and cleaner urban delivery. The third prize, on the other hand, has gone to EGIBIDE, Fundaci\u00f3n Diocesana Jes\u00fas Obrero, for the effort to raise awareness among its students about the use of bicycles as a means of sustainable transport. <\/p>\n In the communication category, CicloGreen Move&Win<\/em> has been awarded for the dissemination and impact through different media of its incentive programme for sustainable mobility with a great impact on the promotion of the use of bicycles and the walking transport model.<\/p>\n SPAIN, THE SECOND MOST PARTICIPATIVE COUNTRY<\/strong><\/p>\n As for this year’s balance, once again Spain has been the second country in which the most cities have participated, with 467 registered municipalities, behind Austria.<\/p>\n These municipalities, which have a population of more than 24 million inhabitants, have implemented 2,720 permanent measures.<\/p>\n The Autonomous Communities with the most participating municipalities have been Catalonia and Andalusia.
