The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, Isabel Garc\u00eda Tejerina, has underlined the enormous importance of addressing the transition to a new low-carbon model from ambition and responsibility.<\/p>\n

Isabel Garc\u00eda Tejerina, and the Minister of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, \u00c1lvaro Nadal, closed today, at the headquarters of the Ministry, the conference “Spain, together for the climate”, a debate meeting to guide the future Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition.<\/p>\n

LAW ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGY TRANSITION<\/strong><\/p>\n

In his speech, Garc\u00eda Tejerina specified that the Law “is the appropriate instrument to guide the necessary transition towards a new economic model, low in emissions, with a vocation for permanence”, for which a broad social and political consensus is needed.<\/p>\n

As he highlighted, the presence of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on the opening day reaffirms the Government’s commitment in this Legislature to adopt an ambitious Climate Change and Energy Transition Law. In this sense, Garc\u00eda Tejerina stressed the importance of designing a regulation that favours competitiveness, employment and the sustainability of natural systems and the economic fabric of Spain. As he stressed, the fight against climate change is an opportunity for development. <\/p>\n

DEBATE DAYS<\/strong><\/p>\n

In this context, the conference has been intense and fruitful, with in-depth debates and reflections from all points of view. For the minister, the sum of all must allow us to find a balance that allows us to position ourselves at the head of the new development model in climate action. As he assured, “the government is ready to listen, because we want this country to be prepared to lead the transition to a new low-carbon model”. <\/p>\n

The work carried out over these two days has been organised around 5 sessions, focused on the main sectors of activity in Spain most linked to the fight against climate change. The focus of the debate was agriculture, food, forestry, cities, transport, energy, industry and adaptation to climate change. <\/p>\n

The conclusions of these sessions will be an important contribution that will serve for the preparation of the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law. However, the minister warned that “this is only the beginning”, as we are called upon to ensure an orderly transformation of our economy towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy. “We want to continue with this model in which we all contribute our ideas and solutions,” he added. <\/p>\n

To this end, all the contributions of the five working sessions will be published soon. In addition, a public consultation process will be opened prior to the preparation of the draft law, in which it is expected to have the active participation of the whole of Spanish society. <\/p>\n

In this regard, the minister recalled the words spoken yesterday by the President of the Government, in which he pointed out that the fight against climate change is such a great responsibility that it will give us the true measure of each society.<\/p>\n
