The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) is launching Generaci\u00f3nClima to integrate the voice of young people into the international process of fighting climate change. This pioneering initiative will select ten young university students, who will have to present a project on adaptation to climate change linked to the challenges of the next climate summit (COP27), which will be held in Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt) next November. <\/p>\n
With this initiative, MITECO, through the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC) and the Biodiversity Foundation, seeks to attract, select and prepare two teams of young Spaniards for their face-to-face participation in COP27 as part of the Spanish delegation. The initiative also has the collaboration of the Crue (Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities). <\/p>\n
Each of the selected teams will have the opportunity to attend COP27 for a week, learn first-hand about the debates, perspectives and visions of governmental and non-governmental actors, as well as contribute their own ideas to advance the challenges and opportunities of adaptation to climate change.<\/p>\n
ROLE OF YOUTH, INCREASINGLY RELEVANT<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n The role of youth has become increasingly relevant since COP25 in Madrid, where an important exercise was carried out to integrate and make young people visible in the international process of fighting climate change. In this sense, the Glasgow Climate Pact recognises young people and children as an important group to be taken into account due to their special vulnerability and their role in the field of collaboration to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement. COP27 will be held from 7 to 18 November in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in Africa, and will have among its priorities to increase and accelerate adaptation efforts and, in particular, to advance elements of the Global Goal on Adaptation work programme and issues associated with loss and damage.<\/p>\n To participate, young people will need to submit concrete projects and ideas that contribute to accelerating adaptation and resilience, issues that will be the focus of the African summit. The deadline for submitting proposals begins today, May 12 and will end on September 12. An information and doubt resolution session will be held on May 26.
