\n Description<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

The Sustainable Eel Fisheries project in the Natura 2000 Network<\/em>, developed in 2018, provided valuable information on the European eel and documented for the first time the departure of mature eels from the Mar Menor to the Mediterranean Sea. The results of the sampling showed a possible regression of the species in the Iberian southeast, which has not been detected in areas where they had previously been detected, and it seems that an important part of the fishing pressure on eel in the Mar Menor is carried out on adult individuals at the time of migration. After the issues that arose during 2018, the GePesAng project is therefore presented as a second part of a project aimed at improving the information available on the European eel in the surroundings of Natura 2000 Network areas in the Iberian southeast. <\/p>\n

Monitoring and follow-up work will be carried out and special attention will be paid to aspects related to the spaces that can be used as reservoirs, their biology and ecologies, including migration dates, in order to estimate the stock and fishing pressure and thus be able to establish the most efficient measures for their conservation, always agreed with the sectors involved.<\/p>\n

Monitoring and sampling will be carried out in coastal channels and wetlands in the Region of Murcia and southern Alicante, working days on the species and environmental dissemination and participation work. Based on the data collected and analysed, proposals will be established for the management of the species and fisheries in the Iberian southeast. <\/p>\n
