Description: <\/strong><\/p>\n

The project aims to study and improve the selectivity of trawls in the Cantabrian Sea and the Iberian Northwest in order to facilitate the adaptation of the activity of the commercial fishing fleet to the regulation on Landing Obligation (OD). Based on the diagnosis carried out in the MENDES project, the available information on the casuistry of the discarding of the fleets under study will be analysed and the case(s) of study will be prioritised based on their relevance to compliance with OD and to the activity of the fleet itself. In Technological Committees made up of the fishing sector and scientists, the technological alternatives of selective devices for bottom trawls will be established, contemplating, among others, the modification of the geometry of the meshes, for their subsequent construction and verification of their effectiveness and improvement of selectivity. Finally, a financial assessment of the effects of the operational measures on fishing companies will be carried out, as well as an economic and financial assessment of different alternatives within the framework of the OD. <\/p>\n
