In addition, such information could be used to improve fisheries management policies or to verify compliance with European policies for the elimination of fish discards (landing obligation). <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The systems currently available for the collection of this data have a series of disadvantages that make the information incomplete or of poor quality. Mainly, the disadvantages are related to: high cost of the systems, low reliability of the data, low coverage of fishing areas or interference with fishing activity. It is therefore necessary to develop new solutions that are capable of addressing these disadvantages, such as the inclusion of electronic monitoring technologies that allow the identification and quantification, in real time (online) of all catches on board commercial vessels.  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">One of the most promising technologies is the <em>iObserver<\/em> system, developed within the framework of the LIFE iSEAS project. It is an electronic device that, installed on the triad tape, obtains photographs of the entire capture. The software installed on the <em>iObserver<\/em>, based on artificial vision, analyzes each of the photographs, identifying the species and estimating the size and weight of each specimen. In addition, it creates a text file that contains all the information. This information is sent in real time, via satellite or telephone, to a server on the ground. There it is analyzed and used to feed mathematical models that allow predictions of the state of the fishery. In addition, the <em>Geoportal<\/em>, among other GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools, is used to generate maps that allow the data to be easily visualized.      <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The project sought to improve this system so that it can provide more reliable data from the entire capture, using artificial intelligence tools that identify objects in images or videos.
