The project arises as a continuation of REDMAR, developed in 2011 within the framework of EFF, in order to continue its line of work, strengthening and expanding the network, and to promote the employability of women graduates in maritime-fishing training, as well as the exchange of good practices in terms of safety on board, the environment and gender equality.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest problems that women face when working on this type of fishing vessel is that, beyond the fact that the vessels are not adapted to their needs and the design and structure are only designed for life on board for men, the ship-owning companies do not think of them as part of their crew. There are still many gender stereotypes that prevent women from going on board ships. For this reason, women are underrepresented in all vocational training cycles in the Maritime-Fisheries branch. It is necessary to offer women graduates access to the labour market and the development of their professional careers normally in this sector. <\/p>\n

REDMAR II has offered, in a pioneering way, the insertion of women graduates in Vocational Training from the Maritime-Fishing family. Although there are currently several women’s associations and organisations related to the fishing sector that defend equal rights between women and men and offer advice (e.g. AKTEA, the Spanish Network of Women in the Fisheries Sector, AMUPESCA, etc.), it is considered necessary to create a complete network of communication and exchange involving the public sector, shipowners, fishermen’s associations, non-governmental organizations, etc., and that allows the development of initiatives aimed at the inclusion of women in the sector, overcoming the obstacles that exist today and taking advantage of the advantages and opportunities offered by networking. <\/p>\n
