The project aimed to mitigate the impact of artisanal fishing on the most sensitive benthic habitats of Cap de Creus, through an exhaustive characterization of the main artisanal fishing grounds carried out and thanks to the close collaboration between scientists and fishermen.<\/p>\n

This characterisation of the fishing grounds has been carried out through the use of a remotely controlled underwater vehicle (ROV) for the acquisition of high-resolution bathymetric data, as well as images, videos and photomosaics of the different populations of benthic fauna of these fishing grounds. All the material obtained has been visualized jointly with the fishermen to identify the most ecologically sensitive habitats, as well as to locate lost or abandoned fishing gear. Based on the results obtained, the effectiveness of modifying the usual gear setting positions to reduce the impact on the most sensitive habitats previously identified has been proposed and evaluated. <\/p>\n

In addition, a series of pilot tests have been carried out, together with fishermen, to explore the feasibility of extracting previously located lost or abandoned fishing gear and thus reduce ghost fishing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
