Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

RE-MAR I will use citizen science to strengthen collaboration between the fishing and more closely linked sectors of the sea, the local population and visitors to the environment. Likewise, the project will lay the foundations of an inclusive endogenous development model, based on the conservation of the coastal and marine environment. <\/p>\n

Applying a social ecology perspective, which links the state of health of the marine environment and coastal habitats with the quality of life of the population, RE-MAR I will seek to maximise its impact on the marine environment under state competence, specifically in the Maritime-Terrestrial Park of the Atlantic Islands.<\/p>\n

The project will incorporate a social innovation approach for the collection of marine litter, in collaboration with the fishing sector in the R\u00eda de Arousa (Galicia). We will develop a mobile application for the geolocation and description of marine litter and for the identification of pollution points and monitoring of populations of two threatened birds that have among their habitats the R\u00edas Baixas Marine Protected Area: the shag and curlew. Through the app<\/g> , rubbish collection challenges will be organised, in collaboration with the fishing sector and local diving entities. This application will work as an environmental education tool, monitoring the state of conservation of coastal environments and as a reputation system; by allowing the information shared between users to be compared in a simple and visual way. <\/p>\n

Likewise, in order to promote pro-environmental behaviour and the improvement of knowledge among the local population and the fishing sector about the state of conservation of the Marine Protected Area of the R\u00edas Baixas, the AMICOS Blue Vessel and AMICOS Coastal Environmental Agent Award will be created, awarded to those boat crews that have collaborated the most in the reduction of waste generation and its correct management in port and to those people or groups that have had the best results in the challenges of waste collection, respectively.<\/p>\n

Training will be given to fishermen, port agents and citizens in environmental regulations affecting the fishing sector, and pilot and voluntary audits will be carried out with vessels moored in the ports of the R\u00eda de Arousa, to analyse how smaller inshore or recreational boats with lower notification requirements on the waste they generate, they would comply with the recommendations at European level in terms of Green Ships.<\/em><\/p>\n

The project includes three different training courses aimed at promoting sustainability, innovation, citizen collaboration and inclusion in environmental stewardship of marine protected areas. In addition, a Blue Ship Participatory Guarantee Seal will be created, which will define the conditions for the recognition of catches and vessels with the seal. The seal will be disseminated among businesses and the recognition of these products for consumption will be encouraged. Finally, workshops will be organized to prevent the generation of waste and marine chemical pollution with an active pedagogical approach, based on experimentation and in collaboration with educational centers in the area. <\/p>\n

During the life of the project, at least 300 kilos of marine plastic waste will be removed and 45 people will be technically trained. In addition, awareness workshops will be given in six educational centers in the area. <\/p>\n
