\n Description<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n

The project is the second phase of ECOFISH, a beneficiary of the 2018 call of the Pleamar Program and whose objective is to develop environmental measures to improve the conservation status of the Gulf of Cadiz SPA and achieve a more sustainable fishery.<\/p>\n

The initiative will develop the ‘Basuras 0’ protocol in the ports of the study area by extending the protocol applied in the previous phase of ECOFISH in Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda. In the same way, a heat map will be drawn up on the concentration of marine litter in the area and its sources of origin will be identified. <\/p>\n

With regard to by-catches and discards, the study initiated in the previous call will be extended, proposing innovative and effective measures to reduce the impact of the fishing sector and extending it to new ports and guilds. Finally, the effect of the attraction of discards in fishing as a source of food for seabirds and other apical predators in the area will be evaluated. <\/p>\n

With regard to the incidence of plastic pollution in the food web of the Gulf of Cadiz, the presence of plastics and marine litter in apical predators (birds, sea turtles and cetaceans), in commercial and non-commercial fish species, will be evaluated.<\/p>\n
