{"id":97860197,"date":"2014-03-24T12:24:41","date_gmt":"2014-03-24T11:24:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fundacion-biodiversidad.es\/proyectos_ficha\/extensive-livestock-farming-as-a-key-element-in-wolf-conservation\/"},"modified":"2014-03-24T12:24:41","modified_gmt":"2014-03-24T11:24:41","slug":"extensive-livestock-farming-as-a-key-element-in-wolf-conservation","status":"publish","type":"proyectos_ficha","link":"https:\/\/fundacion-biodiversidad.es\/en\/proyectos_ficha\/extensive-livestock-farming-as-a-key-element-in-wolf-conservation\/","title":{"rendered":"Extensive livestock farming as a key element in wolf conservation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The project, which runs from 1 January to 31 December 2013, consists of drawing up a technical plan for the management of the natural environment that includes the extensive use of pastures in the mountain areas of \u00c1vila, so that it is compatible with the sustainable management of wolf populations (Canis lupus signatus).  <!--more-->  The project, which runs from 1 January to 31 December 2013, consists of drawing up a technical plan for the management of the natural environment that includes the extensive use of pastures in the mountain areas of \u00c1vila, so that it is compatible with the sustainable management of wolf populations (Canis lupus signatus).<\/p>\n<p>The scope of action is the area of influence of the Iberian wolf in the province of \u00c1vila, specifically in the Sierra de \u00c1vila, the Sierra de Gredos and the Sierra de la Paramera and the Serrot, where wolf attacks on livestock are increasing and the conflict with livestock farmers is increasing.<\/p>\n<p>The objective is to contribute to the conservation of the wolf, in addition to these others:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain a viable population of wolves within a framework of coexistence with the rural world and compatible with agricultural activities.<\/li>\n<li>Propose an orderly hunting use compatible with the conservation of the species.<\/li>\n<li>To establish a system of advice and assistance for the application of damage prevention methods.<\/li>\n<li>Carry out studies on wolf populations, roosting areas and food needs depending on the time of year.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The actions will be based on four basic pillars.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prevention. The appropriate measures will be implemented so that farmers can mitigate the damage caused by the wolf. <\/li>\n<li>Awareness-raising, based on the testimonies of farmers who have obtained good results thanks to prevention measures.<\/li>\n<li>Search for measures that evaluate the existing wolf populations, so that they are located in order to be able to foresee possible attacks on the livestock population.<\/li>\n<li>Complementary measures. An attempt will be made to use the values that the wolf transmits to society, so that the figure of the canid can be a tourist attraction for the area. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Among the activities of the initiative, farmers will be informed about the systems to scare the wolf away from their farms and thus prevent attacks. Mastiff dogs will also be made available to them that can face the wolf in the event of a possible attack, so that they desist from the assault in the presence of the dogs. <\/p>\n<p>Awareness campaigns will also be launched to make the wolf seen as an economic engine that can contribute to increasing the development of rural areas and be the object of tourist routes, which will be carried out around the figure of this emblematic animal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":11,"featured_media":22405,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"financiaci_n":[650],"lineas_actuacion_tematicas":[654],"class_list":["post-97860197","proyectos_ficha","type-proyectos_ficha","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","financiaci_n-fundacion-biodiversidad-en","lineas_actuacion_tematicas-terrestrial-ecosystems"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.9 -
