This initiative is a continuation of the work of spatial and temporal monitoring of the Cantabrian brown bear population initiated by FAPAS in 1984.<\/p>\n

This initiative is a continuation of the work of spatial and temporal monitoring of the Cantabrian brown bear population initiated by FAPAS in 1984.<\/p>\n

The main objective is to know and evaluate the patterns of occupation of the space and the population trend of the Cantabrian brown bear, through the use of complementary non-invasive work methodologies, which contribute to the implementation of conservation practices of the species.<\/p>\n

The specific purposes are:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. To investigate habitat preferences and population trends in the two bear nuclei of Asturias.<\/li>\n
  2. To know the factors that have a negative impact on the recovery process of the species.<\/li>\n
  3. Use photographic trapping as a tool to identify specimens, estimate reproductive indices, evaluate the population trend of wild boars and prevent poaching.<\/li>\n
  4. Use genetic analysis as a scientific tool to corroborate the level of mobility in the territory of females in the mating season and kinship relationships.<\/li>\n
  5. To have an updated database of the data collected by FAPAS since 1998.<\/li>\n
  6. To make aspects of the biology of the brown bear known among the population in a visual way.<\/li>\n
  7.
