It is carried out following a protocol that favors all carrion birds of prey, with special attention to the bearded vulture, the Egyptian vulture, the black vulture and the red kite. <\/p>\n<p>          <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The initiative aims to build three new strategically located feeders, which will strengthen the availability of food for scavenger birds in the Pyrenees. It is carried out following a protocol that favors all carrion birds of prey, with special attention to the bearded vulture, the Egyptian vulture, the black vulture and the red kite. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n            <span>In the 90s, Iberian necrophagous raptor populations reversed the negative trend of their population, thanks to specific conservation projects. Especially for the bearded vulture, Catalonia is one of the European bastions of the species, with more than 33 territories and a large number of individuals. The importance of this region for scavenging is currently increased by the reintroduction of the black vulture in the Pyrenees, which is currently the only area in Europe where the four species of European vultures coexist on a regular basis.  <\/span>\n          <\/p>\n<p>However, all these good results are in danger, due to the regulations for the removal of dead cattle from the field, as a result of the crisis declared with the detection of the first case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in Spain, in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>The scarcity of food and social alarm has led to consider, especially the griffon vulture, as a threat to livestock, as attacks on live cattle have increased.
