The Surf and Clean association<\/a> launched, with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation and Ecoembes<\/a>, the project “Surfing as a vector for the transmission of knowledge and an agent of change on the problem generated by litter in the sea”<\/strong> to convey to surfers the problem generated by marine litter, involve them as users of the sea, and involve them when it comes to publicizing the problem and proposing solutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Within the framework of the project, the aim was for surfers to be more active in the defence of their environment, the sea. To achieve this, it has relied on 4 main lines of action: <\/p>\n

– Training program for surf instructors<\/strong>, in collaboration with 5 surf federations (5 online <\/em>and 4 face-to-face). More than 225 surf instructors were reached. <\/p>\n

– Direct work with the new surf schools<\/strong>: we collaborated with more than 30 schools and the “defend the sea” poster\/seal was created and sent physically and digitally to all of them.<\/p>\n

– Volunteer activities:<\/strong> 5 collaborative local groups were created that mobilized 220 volunteers and collaborated with another one. 9 volunteer days were organized. <\/p>\n

– Collaboration with surfers:<\/strong> They characterized 19+9 beaches. 18 black spots of waste accumulation were located. More than 200 photos were received of surfers picking up trash on the beach.
