PRTR Call for Proposals Project
The project focuses on the naturalization of schoolyards along with proposed improvements to green spaces: mowing planning, alternatives to lawns, micro-gardens for pollinators, shrub stands, amphibian ponds, dead wood integration, nest boxes or insect hotels. The most relevant action includes the ecological recovery of the 12-hectare Las Tablas park, adapting it to the global climate change and resilience strategy. This is a strategic area near the city, next to the Saja-Besaya River, with serious signs of deterioration caused by the advance of invasive species. TORRELAVEGA CONEXIÓN NATURAL will mean its conversion into an accessible and sustainable river ecosystem. The project will result in a substantial improvement in the biodiversity and connectivity of Torrelavega’s green areas, with a change in management through the efficiency and resilience of urban semi-natural ecosystems by means of Nature-based Solutions (NBS).

2.000.000,00€The diagnosis of Torrelavega’s green spaces carried out in 2020 in the ‘Green Areas Management Plan’ defined some problems detected in them, to be solved by means of the proposed actions linked to the strategy for the promotion of their biodiversity. The ecological restoration of Las Tablas park will involve the expansion of the green ring, an area that is currently degraded due to the advance of invasive vegetation and damage caused by flooding. This action will also have an impact on the existing hydraulic problems, as it is a flood-prone area with a risk catalogued by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation as very serious.
