This area develops projects for the conservation and restoration of habitats, species and ecosystems, with a strong focus on the marine environment.It also promotes and manages projects and initiatives related to land stewardship, the conservation of endangered species and the promotion of lifestyles that respect nature.

It also participates in the elaboration of plans, strategies and tools for biodiversity management.
With this focus, it prepares and develops projects financed with community funds, with a predominance of funds from the LIFE program of the European Union.

Responsible for managing calls for grants aimed at generating knowledge in strategic areas such as terrestrial, marine and coastal biodiversity and one of its main drivers of loss, climate change, where funds are channeled to the environmental and academic sectors.

Likewise, in close collaboration with the Spanish Climate Change Office and thanks to the PIMA Adapta operational tool (Plan de Impulso al Medio Ambiente para la Adaptación al Cambio Climático), actions are promoted to support the achievement of the objectives of the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change and its respective work programs.

Organizes actions aimed at promoting the transformation and resilience of urban environments through projects for the conservation and recovery of urban and river biodiversity, mainly through nature-based solutions, thus improving the quality of life and habitability of cities.

It also generates and brings together knowledge in this area, highlighting the value of urban renaturalization and its multiple benefits.
To this end, it designs and implements calls for grants and projects for local entities and other actors in the urban ecosystem committed to the sustainable transformation of Spanish cities.

It coordinates the line of work for the promotion of the bioeconomy, especially through calls for grants for projects that promote an economy that respects planetary limits and benefits biodiversity, and that encourages the sustainable use of natural resources as a driver of development, achieving transformations of impact in line with the conservation and restoration of natural heritage.

In addition, it monitors the projects that receive aid, the justification and liquidation of projects, as well as other projects and initiatives of its own.

This area aims to promote more sustainable economic models, based on the conviction of the role that the circular economy must play in the ecological transition and in halting and reversing the loss of biodiversity.
It manages calls for grants for the promotion of the circular economy in Spain associated with the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), financed by the European Union - NextGenerationEU.

Among its tasks is the monitoring of projects that receive aid, and their justification and liquidation. The area is committed to supporting companies willing to adopt circular principles that generate value through the development of innovative solutions that can lead to systemic changes.

The green economy and employment area of the Biodiversity Foundation promotes initiatives, such as the empleaverde Program and the Red emprendeverde, which facilitate access to training and enable people, both unemployed and workers and entrepreneurs, to face the changes occurring in the labor market with greater security.

It also aims to promote the involvement of the private sector in biodiversity policies through the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative.
To this end, it mobilizes funds, such as the European Social Fund.
Among its tasks is the monitoring of projects that receive aid and their justification and liquidation.

This area aims to conserve the marine environment together with the fishing and aquaculture sector and promotes sustainable fishing and aquaculture through the Pleamar Program. This program is developed through calls for project grants and is co-financed by the different European Structural and Investment Funds linked to the fishing activity, such as the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund or the European Maritime Fund for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Likewise, it manages the Spanish Aquaculture Observatory (OESA) project and collaborates in the monitoring of other complementary actions or those related to the area's activities, such as the LIFE IP INTEMARES project, the Empleaverde Program (in its blue employment line) and other calls for aid with an impact on the marine area.

It participates in ministerial actions related to the blue economy and employment, such as Marine Strategies, working groups on marine litter, or the network and inventory of marine education resources in Spain (REEDUCAMAR), among others.
Finally, it manages the participation of Fundación Biodiversidad in the European Biodiversity Partnership, Biodiversa+, including the calls for grants linked to this project. This is a global and multidisciplinary platform with the participation of 74 entities from 36 countries that connects local, national and European research and innovation (R&I) programs with the aim of conserving and recovering biodiversity.
