Renaturalization of Pinto to make it a more natural, biodiverse, livable, healthy, equitable, inclusive and resilient city (Pinto en Verde).

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The project aims to turn Pinto into a natural city that is resilient to climate change, healthy, socially and environmentally just and a benchmark in urban renaturalization and in the evaluation of its benefits. The urban center of the town suffers a strong disconnection with its rich natural environment due to large infrastructures. The provision of green areas is acceptable, but they do not form a connected, equitable green infrastructure network, nor are they designed to provide ecosystem services. Pinto en Verde is committed to the recovery of peri-urban spaces that connect the city center with the Culebro stream and provide a large green area in the north of the city, the naturalization of three pilot streets and the design and implementation of surgical interventions to create islands of biodiversity, improve connectivity and diversify the green, including actions in schools. All of this is accompanied by robust governance and participation plans, communication and an innovative approach to the measurement of social co-benefit indicators.
