SUSTAINABLE URBAN GARDENING

Empleaverde program

The project aims to improve employability in the urban gardening sector , promoting gardening and landscaping that promotes native biodiversity, prioritizing sustainability during its implementation and reducing the introduction of invasive species.

The theme of the project is sustainable management of green spaces.

Progressively more cities are adopting sustainable gardening in their programs and action plans. Landscaping is sustainable when it makes a rational and efficient use of natural resources, minimizing maintenance costs. For this, it is necessary that the gardening be adapted to the environmental and cultural conditions of the surroundings. On the other hand, the serious problem caused by the introduction of exotic species for gardening, which become invasive to the natural environment, makes it necessary to reconsider the prevention measures required to minimize this risk in the future.

In general, the project aims not only to improve employability, but also to work to achieve a sustainable urban gardening that promotes 4 main lines of action:

  • – Protection and promotion of biodiversity.
  • – Reduction of environmental impacts.
  • – Reduction and optimization of water and energy consumption.
  • – Reduction and optimization of waste management.

The project is structured in several face-to-face training actions, which include an important practical component. This practical training will be carried out in the green areas of the participating municipalities. The practical modules will be videotaped and will be available to students upon request. All participants of the courses will become part of the job vacancies of the municipalities themselves.

The percentage of participation of women in the project will be 40%, while the percentage of participation of other priority groups (sum of the rest of the groups except women) will be 90%.

At least 10% of the beneficiaries will obtain employment.

The project will have an impact on the Natura 2000 Network.
