MITECO launches Generation COP29 to integrate young people into the Spanish delegation to the next Climate Summit

  • The initiative will select young Spaniards committed to climate action and with proposals that contribute to meeting the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
  • Those selected will be part of the Spanish team that will travel to Baku (Azerbaijan) for the Climate Summit to be held in November.
  • The deadline for submitting proposals is July 10. All the information with the conditions for participation can be found on the initiative’s website: https://generacioncop.fundacion-biodiversidad.es/

The Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) is launching the COP29 Generation initiative to integrate the voice of young people in the international process to combat climate change.

Younger generations are increasingly well informed and are demanding action today for the future they want: a fairer, more equitable society that is prepared for the impacts of climate change.

The United Nations Climate Summit 2024 (COP29) will be held from November 11-22 in Baku (Azerbaijan) and will have among its priorities the definition of a new collective climate finance goal. The aim is to mobilize the necessary resources on a large scale to address climate change and its impacts.

In this context, with the conviction that young people must be consolidated as key players in international climate conferences and aware of the need to strengthen the capacity for dialogue and justice between generations, the Spanish delegation will continue with the successful experience of 2022 and 2023, and will once again integrate young people in the Spanish delegation attending COP29.

Any person residing in Spain between the ages of 18 and 29 may submit an application, which must include a project or proposal to promote climate action.

During their stay, young people will have the opportunity to learn about the perspectives and visions of governmental and non-governmental actors, and to find spaces to share ideas and proposals for climate action.

This year, belonging to Generación Clima will also mean being part of the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) to be held in our country during the month of September and acting as spokespersons for its conclusions at COP29.

The deadline for submitting proposals is July 10. The complete conditions of participation and the proposal submission form can be found on the initiative‘s website.
