PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The project seeks to promote the forest bioeconomy through the valorization of wood residues obtained from traditional forest harvesting processes. This waste will be used together with organic pruning waste from gardens and orchards to develop a composting process whose environmental and socioeconomic benefits will be passed on to the rural population.

he forestry sector faces important challenges such as the abandonment of forest areas, rural depopulation and loss of biodiversity due to climate change and human action. The scarce forest management in the area to date and the limited use of resources require new practices that will transform forest management in an integral manner. The project aims to respond to these challenges by promoting sustainable and efficient forest management, bringing these advantages back to the rural environment.

The project contemplates the integral improvement of the forest harvesting system to generate environmental and socioeconomic benefits and prevent degradation and the risk of forest fires. To achieve this, activities that use forest resources in a sustainable manner and generate value for the area will be implemented. As a way of using forest resources, organic material from the cleaning and maintenance of the forest, such as branches and leaves, will be composted. It will also promote awareness and sensitization of the surrounding population and tourists about the importance of forest conservation and the responsible use of its resources. Environmental education campaigns will be carried out to highlight the environmental and socioeconomic benefits of sustainable forest management, including composting as a form of forest residue utilization.

The project aims to promote the forest bioeconomy and generate green jobs in the regions of El Valle and Pinares in the municipality of El Royo (Soria). Forest resources, including wood residues, will be sustainably harvested for the production of quality compost. Sustainable forestry practices will be encouraged, promoting environmental education and ensuring the conservation of ecosystems, minimizing mineral fertilizer inputs and improving soils. In addition, the Mycological Center of El Royo will be established, which will promote mycological knowledge and promote related tourism. This will diversify the local economy and generate employment opportunities, thus promoting sustainable development in the region.
