Public forests total more than 8 million hectares, make up the largest natural capital, support an important part of the Natura2000 Network and are a key element in ecological connectivity. Public forests may be public domain or patrimonial. 27% of the forest area corresponds to public assets: 7.70 million hectares, of which 7.37 million are Public Utility Forests (Report on the State of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity in Spain to 2020). 54% of UP’s forests are part of the Natura 2000 Network. In addition, there are more than 10,000 entities involved in the management of this heritage.
The REMP is consolidated as a space for cooperation that increases society’s recognition of public forests, their management and the goods and services derived from them. This project will help improve the capacities of public managers and provide tools for the development of the bioeconomy within the framework of climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation and enhancement, and the visibility of the role of women in forest management.
Contribute to the improvement of knowledge and enhancement of the value of public forest heritage, public forest management and the goods and services derived from it, within the framework of the fight against climate change, biodiversity conservation and the demographic challenge, as well as the development of the forest bioeconomy through initiatives with the Entities.
