The project highlights different strategies that are already being developed in the Pyrenees of Huesca and Lleida, to typify and integrate grazing practices in the management models for the conservation of Protected Natural Areas, the development of models of Resilient Landscapes 2050, and in the Autonomic Defense Plans against fires, transferable to a future territorial contract or in regional and/or national policies, as well as a better integration of local resources and actors in the CAP.
The project aims to validate models that contribute to the development of the bioeconomy on the improvement of ecosystem services of extensive livestock farming, to promote their permanence, the improvement in the quality of employment and the sustainable development of landscapes and communities in the Pyrenees of Huesca and Lleida. The starting point is the need for sustainable and efficient use of public pasture and forestry resources, in the face of biodiversity loss and climate change, to promote a change of model in the sector that is committed to sustainability, especially in rural areas and especially in mountain areas, with lower agricultural income, a fact attributable to higher production costs, limited precisely by a production system with higher costs derived from the physical environment in which it is developed. The sector has the potential to generate local employment and introduce innovations and contribute to the sustainable development of Pyrenean communities.
Promotion of the forest bioeconomy through the development and validation of new public-private collaboration business models to promote extensive livestock farming and pastoralism as an environmental service in the Pyrenees of Huesca and Lleida (BEEP).
