The Biodiversity Foundation, within its “Beaches, Volunteering and Land Stewardship Programme”, continues throughout the month of August with volunteering actions for the conservation of nature and landscapes of coasts, coasts and watersheds.

This initiative, aimed at land stewardship entities with scope of action in the Autonomous Communities of the Spanish coast, as well as in inter-community river basins, seeks to enhance the role of citizen action in the conservation of nature and landscapes.

Among the planned activities, on the one hand, volunteer actions are scheduled for the cleaning of rivers: on August 14, a day of cleaning of the banks of the Ara river as it passes through Ainsa (Huesca) is planned; and on August 24 at the Algars river in Caseres (Ebro Basin), a meeting on the river to travel and learn about some sections, make a diagnosis of its state and proceed to clean the banks, an activity that will be completed on August 22 with a talk and audiovisual exhibition on “Environmental volunteering and river stewardship in the Terres de l’Ebre. Restoration on the Algars River”, at the Caseres cinema at 8:00 p.m.

On the other hand, several days of bird census will be held. In the Playa de los Lances Natural Park (Tarifa), on August 16, 23 and 30, a bird census will be carried out at the southernmost point of Europe, the island of Tarifa or Isla de las Palomas. This is an action aimed at monitoring the use of the site by migratory birds, where volunteers will have the support of an expert technician from the Migres Foundation. In this same place, several days dedicated to education and awareness will be held, distributing informative brochures with the regulations of this protected area during the days 17, 24 and 31 August.

Between 22 and 24 August, the “La mar de limpio” programme will be carried out on the beach of La Concha de Suances (Cantabria), the beach of Santa Marina in Ribadesella (Asturias), and the beach of San Antolín in Llanes (Asturias), through which awareness and information actions will be carried out. To this end, a small environmental information point will be installed at the main entrance of each beach, where technicians and volunteers will inform about the campaign and the importance of conserving and protecting our coasts. On the other hand, actions will be carried out to remove waste and clean the beach, as well as activities to control invasive exotic species.

Finally, on August 31, in the valley of La Barranca (Navacerrada), seeding, irrigation, replacement of protectors, review of tree pits and soil preparation are scheduled.
