The Earth’s temperature is currently warmer than it has been for 70 to 80% of the time over the past 11,300 years. This is pointed out in a research carried out with a database of 73 sites worldwide.
The study shows a chronological journey through the history of the planet’s temperature since the last Ice Age. The research has been published in the journal Science and funded by the National Science Foundation’s Paleoclimate Program.
Previously, temperatures had already been reconstructed at the regional level, while this study includes the entire global context. In this sense, climate models predict that the global temperature will rise between 2 and 11.5 degrees by the end of this century, largely due to the magnitude of carbon emissions, which means that warming will be greater than in the last 11,300 years.
