The Sierra de Guadarrama is one step closer to becoming a National Park. Yesterday the Congress of Deputies approved the law declaring the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, which will now go to the Senate, and which will mean an expansion of the National Network of Parks.

After completing the parliamentary procedure, it will become the fifteenth natural area of the National Parks Network, with almost 34,000 hectares distributed between the Community of Madrid and Castilla y León. An ecosystem that will see its high ecological and landscape value recognized. It is home to 40% of Spain’s amphibian and reptile species, around 50% of mammals and 39% of birds, in addition to birches, pines, oaks, willows and daffodils. In addition, it is an emblematic space where endangered species such as the black stork or the imperial eagle are found.
