Thirty new ecosystems will become part of the Spanish Inventory of Wetlands, to which a total of 275 wetlands are already added, which represents an area of 167,358.44 hectares in Spain.

This has been pointed out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA), coinciding with World Wetlands Day, a measure that will allow thirty wetlands in the Basque Country to be included in the Inventory, such as the Guerkina-Udaibai estuary, the Arreo Lake or Salburúa.

This action is part of the policy to strengthen the protection of wetlands, with the aim of integrating the needs of conservation and sustainable use of these areas whose ecological and environmental value is indisputable.

Thanks to these actions, Spain is now in third position among the countries in terms of the number of wetlands of International Importance included in the Ramsar List, contributing 74 wetlands, some such as National Parks such as Doñana and Tablas de Daimiel. The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat, was adopted in Ramsar, Iran,  in 1971.
