The Secretary of State for the Environment, Federico Ramos, presented today in Madrid the Responsible Beach Bars Awards convened by the MAGRAMA through the Biodiversity Foundation to six beachfront hospitality establishments that have demonstrated their involvement with the protection of the coast.

At this event held at the Zurbano Palace in Madrid, the Secretary of State for the Environment stressed that the winners will serve as an example for the involvement of hoteliers in the conservation of our coasts.
The granting of these awards, which are part of the coastal policy being carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA), and which aims to reinforce the protection of the coast, reconciling it with sustainable economic activities and with the common and free use of the public domain, as well as strengthening legal security on the coast and generating confidence and certainty for the occupations of the coast and the activity Economic.
Federico Ramos has pointed out the importance of beach bars on the Spanish coast, which with nearly 3,000 establishments located on our coasts, generate more than 40,000 jobs in Andalusia alone. For the Secretary of State for the Environment, it is essential to work on two lines of action: clarifying the legal situation of these food and drink vendors, providing legal certainty to those who carry out their activity in the areas authorised for it, and involving them in the surveillance and protection of our coasts.
The six winners are: The XirinGo! Del Prat (Barcelona), La Glea (Alicante) and Olibaba (Valencia), recognized with the first, second and third prize, respectively, in the category of “Developed Initiatives”. Nahubeach (Cádiz), El Rosa Campello (Alicante) and Calisto (Murcia) have been the winners in the category of “Ideas”.
These establishments, which have received prizes worth 6,000, 4,000 and 2,000 euros (first, second and third), have been recognized in the category of “Initiatives developed” for their management of resources such as water or waste, for being more efficient in the use of energy, for marketing local or ecological products, for promoting local employment, for informing and raising awareness among visitors about the natural resources of the space where they are located, or for collaborating with Public Administrations and other organizations in tasks of maintenance and conservation of the beaches.
Likewise, as many establishments have been awarded in the category of “Ideas”, for initiatives that they intend to develop in these matters during the coming months.
