The AQUATROFIC project aims to contribute to the growth of the Spanish blue economy through the development and promotion of multi-trophic cultivation in unique productive areas in Andalusia and Galicia. Specifically, it seeks to promote the cultivation of different groups of species, including the development of macroalgae, through the application of new technological developments that allow the obtaining of profitable and innovative products with commercial interest that will contribute to boosting the blue economy through the application of the concept of circularity; being the producing companies in the aquaculture sector the ones that will benefit directly from the technological advances and innovations applicable to their productive and marketing activity respectively.
The project will develop the cultivation of native macroalgae from the planting of different microscopic structures in ropes, and pilot cultures will be carried out from the integration of these ropes planted together with different species and functional groups in IMTA systems, evaluating the bioremedial potential of this type of crops.
