The Biodiversity Foundation participates in the Seminar “How NGOs can influence international forums: Rio+20 Summit”, which will take place on the 22nd and 23rd at the Joaquín Roncal Center of the CAI-ASC Foundation (Plaza San Braulio), in Zaragoza.

The seminar, organized by the Ecology and Development Foundation (ECODES) with the support of the FB, aims to facilitate the preparatory process for the United Nations Conference to be held next year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is aimed at representatives of social organizations and citizens who work to promote sustainability from different areas.

This ECODES meeting in Zaragoza is an opportunity for Spanish civil society organisations that are already actively working for sustainability to start walking, together, with a common goal towards the “Rio+20” Summit, so called because it marks the 20th anniversary of the first Earth Summit. The Seminar will offer specific training to representatives of the Spanish third sector through the experiences and proposals that will be made, in the first person, by experts in biodiversity, activists and international negotiators of the Administrations, as well as representatives of the private sector.

The programme invites participants to reflect on the origins of international negotiations on biodiversity and to retrace milestones in the field, leading up to the preparations for the Rio+20 conference. The seminar will explain the main tools that civil society representatives can use, in order to leave the role of spectators to assume a decisive role and act effectively in these international forums.
