The Biodiversity Foundation and Ferrovial Agroman have signed an agreement to continue collaborating on the project “Monitoring Global Change in National Parks”, which began in 2008, and in which the Autonomous Agency of National Parks, the Spanish Office for Climate Change and the State Meteorological Agency also participate.

The signing took place at an event in which the results of this initiative to date were presented, which was attended by the Secretary of State for Climate Change and Vice-President of the Biodiversity Foundation, Teresa Ribera, as well as representatives of the rest of the entities involved.

The main objective of this pioneering project is to develop a system for evaluating and monitoring the impacts that may be generated on ecosystems present in Spanish national parks as a result of global change, based on the information obtained from the collection of climate, air quality and water data ‘in situ’. The information collected constitutes an open database to be used by the national and international scientific community through the internet, as research material for projects related to global change in these protected natural areas.

The initiative involves the integration of the different areas of the Administration specialising in biodiversity, climate change, meteorology and territory, as well as the participation of a private company such as Ferrovial Agroman which, within its line of action to improve the environment, provides economic viability and, therefore, solidity to the project.
