Puebla de Sanabria receives in Brussels, along with four other European municipalities, the award of the European Capitals of Biodiversity 2011

The Biodiversity Foundation has participated today in the awards ceremony for the five European Capitals of Biodiversity 2011, in Brussels, Belgium. The European Commissioner for the Environment, Janez Potocnik, presented the awards to Puebla de Sanabria (Spain), Montpellier (France), Hannover (Germany), Szentes (Hungary) and Kremnica (Slovakia).

This ceremony closes the 2011 edition of the competition that takes place within the framework of the LIFE+ European Capitals of Biodiversity project. The event was held in the context of the Sustainability Breakfasts organised by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) in Brussels.

These municipalities participated in 2011 in this contest that promotes local sustainability and were awarded for the measures adopted and good practices in terms of biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in their respective territories.

The Biodiversity Foundation is one of the partners of the LIFE+ European Capitals of Biodiversity project, which seeks to promote and motivate the initiatives of local authorities in several European countries in the field of biodiversity conservation.
