The Biodiversity Foundation has presented the Biodiversia Platform at the University of La Rioja. This web 2.0 platform aims to promote environmental education and awareness through a virtual space for public participation where citizens can consult the official information generated by the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, provide georeferenced multimedia content and establish links with other users.
It is a social network where users can consult and provide information about biodiversity through forums, chats, both public and private working groups, images, videos, sounds, news, etc.
Biodiversia also provides a Wiki space that allows all interested parties to contribute their own content in the form of articles, to create a collaborative database on natural heritage and biodiversity.
On the other hand, the Biodiversia Platform has the Biomap cartographic viewer, based on Google Maps technology, which allows access to the information of the MARM Nature Data Bank and whose main objective is to facilitate the cartographic visualization of the official information available on natural heritage.
It has 17 different layers of official information and the views of the resource can be observed in two or three dimensions.
Biomap also allows this official information to be complemented with other information from different websites or with that generated by other Biodiversia users, clearly differentiating official information from non-official information.
The Biodiversia platform, promoted by the Biodiversity Foundation, has the support of the Avanza Plan of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade and the MARM, and has been developed to comply with the public participation provided for in Law 42/2007 on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and its regulatory development through the Inventory and the INSPIRE Directive. using Information and Communication Technologies.
