The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, attends today in Ulldecona (Tarragona) the inauguration of the meeting “Oils and Millennial Olive Trees Territory of Sénia”, organized by the Mancomunidad de la Taula del Sénia, with which the Biodiversity Foundation collaborates in the preservation of the more than 4,000 millenary-monumental olive trees existing in its territory.
The Mancomunidad de la Taula del Sénia comprises a total of 24 municipalities, belonging to the Autonomous Communities of Aragon, Catalonia and the Valencian Community, 18 of which are home to a total of 4,080 large millenary-monumental olive trees (more than 3.50 metres in trunk perimeter at 1.30 metres from the ground) of the Farga variety. a very old variety, harvested by hand and alternating production, and which is an unusual event in the world.
The meeting is being held until December 4 at the Casa de Cultura de Ulldecona, where the exhibition “Millennial Olive Trees of Sénia” will also be inaugurated today, and eight new harvest oils will be presented. Likewise, within the framework of this meeting, there will be a scientific-technical symposium and informative days on the oil and the millenary olive trees of the Sénia Territory, and a guided tour of the natural museums of Arión (Ulldecona) and La Jana is also planned.
